Antiques Roadshow guest bursts into tears at family ornament’s valuation

A woman on Antiques Roadshow didn't know whether to laugh or cry at the whopping five-figure value of her old man ornament.

The woman appeared on the US version of the show in Meadowbrook Hall in Rochester, US, with a sculpture that had been gifted to her by her godmother.

Initially, it was meant to be passed to her in her godmother's will but it ended up being given to her early.

But the woman had no idea how much it was worth so took it to the Antiques Roadshow experts to get it valued.

Speaking to the presenters about her fondness for the item, she said: "He's just something that I've always treasured because he's different.

"I like the fact that his hat is missing and he's trying to get to it and I like the movement in his clothes."

The experts later identified the item as a Kaneda Kenjiro bronze sculpture from 1890, which they estimated to be worth around $12,000 (£9.3k), when the show aired in 2018.

The woman burst into tears while giggling at the news as she was thrilled with the "wonderful" estimate.

A clip of the exchange was shared on TikTok, gaining more than 5,000 likes, with fans of the show taking to the comments to give their thoughts.

One user wrote: "She seems like such a nice lady!! She seems like she will really treasure that bronze statue like it’s a little friend."
