Antiques Roadshow guest wowed by value of painting
Antiques Roadshow expert Frances Christie left one guest completely stunned after valuing an old watercolour painting.
During Sunday’s episode of the popular BBC One show, the expert examined the framed artwork and pointed out it was a depiction of a selection of boats set in Iona.
Christie also identified a signature at the bottom of the piece belonging to FCB Cadell, who she refers to as: “One of the four Scottish Colourists and probably the most famous artist working in Scotland”.
She then looked in awe at the painting as she confirmed it dated back to 1913.
The painting belonged to the guest’s grandad who couldn’t make it to the roadshow but stated she had no idea the value of the item.

Christie asked her guest if she had any idea how much money the painting is currently worth.
“No”, the guest replied: “Grandad didn’t say, no. No idea.”
The antique expert then responds: “I love that it’s been hanging there.
“It’s the sort of thing that if it came up to auction today I’d probably put an estimate in the region of £7,000 to £10,000.”
The guest then takes a deep breath in as she hears the true value of the painting, and says: “Wow, wow”, before giggling and adding: “That’s cool.”
“I hope he’s pleased with that”, Christie excitedly adds.

“I will let him know straight away. Wow. Thank you”, adds the guest as she takes a look at the painting with a shocked expression.
Christie then asks: “Well, what do you think your grandad would say?”
The guest replied: “I think he wished he could’ve been here today to hear that news.
“But I think he’d be delighted with that, and as I say, it’s very special for him and my grandma.”
