Axed Casualty star didn't want to leave amid Robyn death ending

Former Casualty star Amanda Henderson has opened up about leaving the BBC One medical drama, admitting that she actually didn’t want to go.

The actress played nurse Robyn Miller for just over 10 years, but departed the show on March 18, when her character died.

Robyn had decided to leave Holby ED after making plans with her new partner Paul (Paul Popplewell), which would’ve seen them start a new life in Wigan with Robyn’s daughter, Charlotte.

But on Robyn’s way home after her final shift, she was involved in a catastrophic car crash.

Due to the pressures the ED was under, Jacob (Charles Venn) made a series of decisions to try and make the workload easier, one of which resulted in Teddy (Milo Clarke) and Sah (Arin Smethurst) arriving to the scene of the accident late.

Many of the nurses argued that if Jacob didn’t make those choices, and if the people higher up cared about the ED, Robyn would still be alive.

The traumatic day also resulted in David (Jason Durr) and Marty (Shaheen Jafargholi) resigning from their roles.

Robyn’s departure came as a shock to Casualty fans – and Amanda Henderson, who recently revealed more about the exit.

‘It was very much their decision for me to leave’, she said on The Double L Show.

‘Their reasoning was that they needed a character who was really well-loved to go to kick off the nurses strike and all of Jacob’s story now, which I can’t tell you about as I don’t know any more.

‘It wasn’t my decision to leave, it was their decision. For a long time, I thought maybe it was something I’d done. I was thinking, “does somebody hate me, is that why?”.’

“We’re at breaking point.”

She added: ‘I can now understand and see why it was Robyn that had to go. Ten years on a show is a really long time, and I am excited to see what else is out there.’

When we last saw Jacobb; he had resigned from the ED after the pressure and guilt he was feeling after Robyn’s death became too much for him to handle.
