On Wednesday’s instalment of Bargain Hunt, guests Ben and Mandy were part of the red team while Janet and her son Xander joined the blue team. The groups were given £300 to buy items in Brackley, Northamptonshire, but there could only be one winning team. However, Thomas Forrester ended up feeling “awful” when his idea to make a team profit backfired.

The red team purchased an oil lantern for £35, a Clarice Cliff pot for £85 and a Swedish glass vase for £50.

Despite their high hopes of making a profit, they made a £20 loss on the pot and £10 loss on the vase.

Thomas gave them a “bonus buy” option to give them a chance to gain some cash.

He returned with a vintage sack barrow which was made in the 20th Century.

He told the married couple they could “make them a fortune” from the item.

Bill took the risk and Thomas believed the barrow could earn his team up to £180.

However, this was not the case as it only sold for £45, bringing the team’s total loss to £115.

“Oh no, no,” an apologetic Thomas told the couple. “We can’t have that. That’s awful, I’m sorry.”

Bargain Hunt fans took to social media following the expert’s misjudgment, with Mick remarking: “I think I’d rather be kicked in the sack barrow than pay £130 for that #BargainHunt.”

Paulo added: “Sack barrow for £130… Lunacy #bargainhunt.”

Gavin penned: “Flushing money down the toilet again! That’s #BargainHunt to a tee!”

Anne commented: “I would have said £20 for that Thomas #BargainHunt.”

Viewers were also left disgruntled when a team got disqualified earlier this month when they were challenged to comb for an item which matched very specific criteria.

The red team had to find something agricultural but they ended up purchasing a mole spade for £18.

The team assumed the item was a spade for digging out moles but later discovered it was probably a 19th Century bread peel which wouldn’t be part of their criteria.
