Bargain Hunt star Charles Hanson has recalled selling a piece of half-eaten toast from Prince Charles’ wedding to Princess Diana for a staggering £800 at auction.

Fans may recognise Charles from his appearances on Bargain Hunt, where he has appeared for almost 20 years, as well as appearances on the BBC’s Antiques Road Trip,

But the TV star has now told of one of his most unbelievable career highlights, where he sold a piece of the Prince’s stale toast to a very high bidder.

In an interview with Express.co.uk, the 44-year-old remembered being presented with a rather bizarre royal item at his own auction room, Hanson’s Auctioneers.

“We were selling a piece of toast for Prince Charles on his wedding day…he couldn’t eat.

“When my client’s mother cleaned his breakfast tray in July 1981 on his wedding day, he left that piece of toast.”

“When I saw that piece of toast, my response was, ‘Crumbs’,” he joked.

In the end, Prince Charles’ piece of uneaten toast went for a staggering £800 at auction.

Over the years, the antique expert recalled being presented with hundreds of unique and rare finds ranging from a letter from Lord Nelson to Queen Victoria’s bloomers.

The BBC presenter regularly keeps his social media followers updated about his rare charity shop finds. In one of his latest posts, Charles shared a photo of a royal bottle of whisky which was made 41 years ago in aid of Charles and Diana’s wedding.

The bottle of Macallan Royal Marriage Malt Whisky was created to mark the special day in July 29, 1981, at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.

In light of their big day, Macallan decided to produce a marriage of whiskies distilled in 1948 and 1961, the years that Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer were born.

Turning his attention to what the whisky could be worth, the expert added: “It’s a rare bottle to find and we have seen it offered by whisky retailers for prices approaching £10,000.

“For any whisky connoisseur or collector, it’s an impressive addition to the drinks cellar and an investment item.”

Other memorable items include a vase that was found in a home that sold for £700k.

He continued: “My highlight was a Chinese vase we found in a house in Birmingham.

“It was Aunt Beryl’s vase, which was given to our client in 1976.

“They had no idea of value. I thought it might make £50,000 and it made £700,000.”
