Simon Cowell discusses regret over not signing Kylie Minogue
Kylie Minogue is back in the charts with her new single Padam Padam, but BBC Radio 1 listeners have claimed the iconic singer was snubbed on Sunday evening.
As the weekend drew to a close, Radio 1’s Katie Thistleton was presenting The Official Chart and fans couldn’t help but notice every current top 10 song was played except for Padam Padam.
The song had climbed from number 23 to number six during the week, so fans were expecting it to be played.
Some went as far as calling for the station to be boycotted as they asked the BBC channel why Kylie’s single had been snubbed.
Twitter user @justjamess87 penned: “@BBCR1 @BBCiPlayer @BBCSounds @BBCR1 When are you actually going to acknowledge Kylie Minogue? She was the most viewed Glastonbury EVER…yet you STILL refuse to play her? Ageist??
“@Ofcom if we make complaints can you look into this? Probably not worth a shot though! Everyone should boycott bbc radio 1! Naff.”
@reecegleghorn96 added: “Radio 1 raging at Madonna, Nelly Furtado and Kylie Minogue’s comebacks this year.” (sic)
@RealGroove7 fumed: “@BBCR1 Dear Radio 1, I am writing to inquire about the lack of airplay of Kylie Minogue’s song Padam Padam despite its massive success. It seems to be that it is being left out of the rotation due to Kylie’s age.”
“Females over a certain age get ditched from BBC Radio 1, not only Kylie but plenty of others. Thankfully RADIO 2 show them support…and yes I am fully aware of BBC broadcasting in general, I’m from the UK. Thanks all the same!” @CalAdam625490 shared.
@simonsmadworld added: “@BBCR1 They played every other song in the top 10. Is this some form of sexism and ageism?”

@TTellr asked: “Why is radio 1 so horribly discriminatory? I mean really. The wonderful Kylie is in the top 10 – a fantastic achievement and you still want to blank her – ageism, sexism. What is your problem @BBCR1?”
Speaking to Entertainment Focus about the complaints, a BBC spokesperson stated: “Radio 1’s Chart Shows are a historical and factual account of what the British public have been streaming and buying, and we play a selection of entries each week, including Kylie’s new single over the past two weeks.”
