BBC Breakfasts Jon Kay calls out colleague for behind-the-scenes blunder

BBC Breakfast’s fans struggled not to laugh after Jon Kay poked fun at one unfortunate colleague after spotting them running late to work.

During Tuesday’s visit to theBBC studios, the 53-year-old broadcaster woke up the nation beside his co-star Sally Nugent on the signature red sofa.

The co-hosts discussed some of the biggest stories hitting the headlines this morning including the women’s world cup match against Australia, the launch of a new reality show The Ultimate Wedding Planner and the dramatic drop in employment figures in the UK.

But it didn’t take long before the morning show derailed after the pair took over the show from regional presenters in the Manchester office.

As the camera panned over the Jon and Kay, viewers got a glimpse inside the bustling BBC newsroom.

It didn't take long before the eagle-eyed presenter spotted one journalist running across the room for what appeared to be an important meeting.

Jon joked: "Did you see that? Someone's obviously late for work this morning" before Sally chimed in with: "Someone's hopefully bringing us a cup of tea, Jon. Hopefully that's what that is!"

The dad-of-three caught viewers up to date with the current news segment that has been in the news this morning which surrounded the topic of expensive school uniforms.

He went on: "We've been talking about going back to school and the price of uniforms".

Sally couldn't help but get one more joke in there, adding: "It's enough to make anyone run away because they are very, very expensive" as her co-host chuckled beside her.

Still tickled by the on-air blunder, Jon took to Twitter to share the hilarious moment on the social media platform X – formerly known as Twitter.

He captioned the post: "When you're late for work and the UK is watching… [cry-laughing emoji] #BBCBreakfast @sallynugent."
