BBC Breakfast's Jon Kay replaced by co-star in hosting shake-up | The Sun

BBC Breakfast host Jon Kay was missing from the morning show's iconic sofa, with Ben Thompson stepping in to co-host.

Jon, 53, who usually presents alongside Sally Nugent Mondays through Wednesdays, was nowhere to be seen as Ben, 42, and Sally, 51, covered the latest headlines.

The pair covered the heatwave, high pollen counts, the public inquiry into the government's handling of the Covid pandemic and Manchester City's trebling winning season, among other stories.

Jon was present on Monday's show with the duo not addressing Jon's absence today (June 13).

Several different faces have appeared recently on the sofa, with Naga Munchetty taking some time off due to health concerns and hosts Roger Johnson, 54, and Sarah Campbell, 50, covering the show at the weekend.

Naga, 48, recently revealed she had the womb condition adenomyosis and is often left in excruciating pain.

BBC Breakfast’s Nina Warhurst gives heart-breaking update on dad’s health

Her openness on the condition across her social media has been met with love and support from fans of the show, with many coming forward with their own battles with adenomyosis.

She left co-host Charlie Stayt to work alongside BBC journalist Tina Daheley at the end of last month.

The heat has been playing havoc with the show this week, with weather specialist Carol Kirkwood and Sally cracking up on yesterday's (June 12) outing as the pair discussed how the humidity leaves their hair looking less than TV ready.

Carol was on location at RSPB Arne in Dorset reporting the weather, and on passing back to the studio, she said: "Jon and Sal, I don't know about you two, but I, for one, will be glad to see the back of this humidity."

Sally answered: "Well, I love it, Carol! Apart from the havoc with the hair, I think it’s great.”

Carol instantly touched her hair and batted back: "What are you saying Sal?!"

Blushing and through the laughter, Sally quickly corrected the situation and added: "No, I meant mine! Not yours."

After Carol commented that her hair had gone "AWOL", Jon joked: "Well, got out of that Sal".

Carol's more casual look saw her swap her fashionable staple dresses for a t-shirt and jeans on the show, which also became a talking point for viewers.

BBCBBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
