On Monday, co-host Jon Kay was forced to pull out of his first show as permanent host.

Jon, 52, was only just confirmed as Dan walker's replacement in an announcement on July 8, 2022.

Jon has been the stand in host alongside Sally Nugent since Dan Walker left for 5 News in May 2022.

However, fans expecting to see Jon on the red sofa on his first official day of the job were left disappointed.

Sharing a snap of his positive Covid test on Twitter, he added the caption: "Aaaagh! Finally got me [germ emoji].

"Gutted not to be able to start the new job officially @BBCBreakfast on Monday."

Tagging BBC Breakfast editor Richard Frediani, he added: "I guess working from home isn't really an option @BBCFrediani?"

Jon was flooded with comments including from his predecessor Dan who said: "Oh no Jon! Hope you feel ok."
