BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent left red-faced by live blunder as Carol Kirkwood steps in to cover for her | The Sun

BBC BREAKFAST's Sally Nugent was left hot and bothered when she made a slip-up on live TV while hosting BBC Breakfast introducing the weather segment to viewers.

The BBC host appeared to be embarrassed and turned red after a blunder during Wednesday’s episode of the breakfast show.

While introducing the sports and weather segments, things took a slightly awkward turn.

In a segment about Serena William’s tennis career, and whether she will decide to retire soon, Sally segued away from the sport and introduced the weather.

Before welcoming Carol Kirkwood on the screen, Sally made an awkward error that Carol played along with after the news presenter was left blushing on the red sofa.

Sally began: "Let's evolve away to the ten…" before looking a bit shaken up, and lost for words.

"Not the tennis, to the weather now," she quickly added, to cover up her mistake.

Laughing it off, Sally said "morning" to Carol before she appeared on-screen from a rooftop in the capital city.

Trying to make things less awkward, host Carol played along and said: “I was thinking you saw us, actually, we were having a quick game of tennis up here earlier. Sal.”

Carol, then later appeared back on the screen, and seemed to be struggling to talk over some loud drilling in the background.

This comes after Sally admitted recently in an appearance on BBC Morning Live,  that she has faced difficulties presenting "distressing" news early in the morning and stressed the importance of having a suitable co-host.

Sally said: "We sometimes have to talk about distressing stories, and complicated stories. So It's really important that the person you are sitting next to, you know and you trust, and you can get on with."

The news anchor then added, that she sometimes has to "jab" her co-host when presenting, so that he knows she wants to speak.

Sally Nugent and Jon Kay have been presenting BBC Breakfast from Mondays to Wednesdays since she switched from a reporter on the show to a main presenter.

She was joined by Jon, who was recently announced as an official host of the daily programme earlier this month following Dan Walker's departure.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.
