BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent sat down with Alexis Green to discuss how the terrifying ordeal has impacted her life on Wednesday’s instalment of the news programme. The BBC South weather presenter was reduced to tears as explained how she was unable to sleep at night. Alexis even contemplated quitting her job because of the traumatic experience.
The BBC weather presenter said she was left feeling physically sick after she was harassed by a man who sent her more than 100 messages, many of them sexually explicit.
Alexis said she was unable to sleep and had to take time off work when she was bombarded with messages and pictures on social media by Timothy O’Brien.
The 55-year-old was jailed for 17 weeks and given a restraining order after he admitted harassment against Alexis.
When Sally asked if the ordeal has made her afraid, she replied: “It has, I am scared to do certain things.
“I don’t go for runs on my own now, I take the dog, the poor dog has to come too.
“I feel there is that protection in place but it’s not going to help me and it’s not going to help my personal feelings and my anxiety.”
Reflecting on having to go to work knowing her stalker would be watching, she explained: “I felt physically sick, I was actually shaking presenting the weather.
“None of my colleagues knew about it at work but my legs were shaking, my hands were shaking, and I was trying to hold it together on air.
“I’ve had my fair share of people stepping over the line with messages on social media and I have taken it as part of my job, but this was way over the line, it was totally out of the line.”
The presenter explained she could not sleep at night as she feared the stalker would be watching her home.
She vowed to avoid the county he lives in “like the plague” when the stalker is released from prison.
Alexis started to break down crying as she admitted she withdrew herself from her loved ones during the ordeal.

She tearfully said: “It’s been really hard and I just want to get on with my life and I don’t want him in it.”
The presenter struggled to speak as she tried to fight back more tears during the interview.
Sally understood Alexis was frightened but asked her if she could picture a day when she could put the ordeal behind her.
Alexis said: “I think I can focus on the future, I just think I have to take it a day at a time and hope those messages are not going to come back on social media.
“I think the longer period of time that it is, it will get better. I hope it will.”
Alexis told viewers she was angry about the situation, adding: “I thought about quitting my job because of this.
“Do I need to feel this stress every day and do I need to feel sick presenting the weather? No, I don’t and hopefully, within time, things will get better.”
