BGT’s Bruno Tonioli fears getting ‘sacked’ as Simon Cowell calls out rule break

Britain's Got Talent's new judge Bruno Tonioli was left red faced after breaking the rules on the first episode of the show's new series on Saturday (April 15).

Former Strictly judge Tonioli was impressed by dance group Ghetto Kids, which is made up of youngsters aged between five and 13 years old.

But he pressed his Golden Buzzer before they finished and sent them through to the live shows – despite the show's rules stating buzzers must be pressed after acts finish routines.

He cried out: "I have to do it now!" and slammed the Golden buzzer, which triggered confetti to explode onto the stage.

But Bruno was unaware of his mistake until head judge Simon Cowell told him that the Golden Buzzer is usually pushed at the end of the performance.

An embarrassed Bruno covered his face with his hands and then turned to the judging panel and said: "Oh I'm sorry, I got it wrong.'

Tonioli's gaffe left fellow judge Alesha Dixon looking stunned and Simon, who told Bruno the mistake had 'never happened before', held his hands to his face in disappointment.

Ant McPartlin pointed out his mistake after the routine finished, saying: "Someone didn't explain the rules of Britain's Got Talent to him."

He turned to the audience and joked: "They're going to sack me you know!"

Bruno was making his debut on what was the first episode of the show's new series after former judge David Walliams stepped down from the judging panel.

David revealed he was quitting the show November 2022, ahead of auditions for the new series starting in January.

At the time, a BGT insider told The Sun: "David has decided to bow out after a ten-year run. He wants to leave on a high after a wonderful time.

"Being on the show has been a huge source of entertainment and joy for him and he is arguably the most popular member of the panel.”

On tonight's show BGT judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli broke down in tears after 13-year-old magician Cillian O'Connor impressed the panel with his card tricks.

Fighting back tears, Amanda told the youngster: "You've made me and Alesha a mess. You were amazing. I mean absolutely phenomenal. I'm really glad magic has given you confidence."

Alesha added it was clear that appearing on the show meant so much to he performer who was open in his act about how he struggled with social situations before finding his skills.''

Britain’s Got Talent launches on Saturday 15th April, 20:00 and continues on Sunday 16th April, 19:45 on ITV1 and ITVX.
