Netflix is soon to be premiering its lavish new costume series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, which serves as a prequel to Bridgerton and charts the love story behind the titular monarch and her husband. As fans of Bridgeton have briefly seen in season one, the marriage between Queen Charlotte (played by Golda Rosheuvel) and King George III (James Fleet) wasn’t a happy one with the couple essentially living separate lives and the royal suffering from mental health issues. However, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will offer a glimpse into the early days of the couple’s romance.
When will the Queen Charlotte Bridgerton series be released on Netflix?
Netflix confirmed earlier this year Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story would be coming out on May 4, 2023.
The show features a total of six episodes, which will be released on the streaming platform globally in one go.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story was first announced back in 2021 following the immense popularity of season one of Bridgerton with the show some time in the making.
Anticipation has been building ever since with Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story and season three of Bridgerton roughly filming around the same time.
There’s been no news yet about when season three of Bridgerton will be released but in the mean time audiences can sink their teeth into Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, which promises to be an equally compelling, romantic and steamy watch.
Who is in the cast of the Queen Charlotte Bridgerton series?
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story sees a mixture of old and new faces with some Bridgerton cast members reprising their roles for the forthcoming series.
Among the fresh faces are India Amarteifio as Young Queen Charlotte with the up-and-coming British actress previously appearing in Doctor Who, Sex Education, Line of Duty and The Tunnel.
Joining her is Sandman star Corey Mylchreest as Young King George and American actress Arsema Thomas who makes her television debut as Young Agatha Danbury.
Other new cast members include Sam Clemmett as Young Brimsley, Richard Cunningham as Lord Bute, Tunji Kasim as Adolphus, Rob Maloney as the Royal Doctor, Cyril Nri as Lord Danbury and Game of Thrones actress Michelle Fairley as Princess Augusta, among others.
Returning cast includes Hugh Sachs as Brimsley, Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte, Adjoa Andoh as Lady Agatha Danbury and Ruth Gemmell as Lady Violet Bridgerton.
Is there a trailer for the Queen Charlotte Bridgerton series?
Yes, Netflix dropped a trailer for the drama recently which sets the scene with Charlotte off to marry King George, whom she has never met before.
Charlotte is perplexed as to why she’s been chosen before being corseted and told by Princess Augusta: “You will make lots of babies for my son.”
The Princess also says: “It’s time our society was united” with the implication Charlotte and George’s union will bridge the racial divide within Britain during this era.
There are flashes between the past and the present with Brimsley and Charlotte first being acquainted, while another scene depicts a young Lady Danbury becoming friends with the monarch.
But the trailer takes a dark turn with George keeping secrets from Charlotte as the young queen tries to find out what’s happening to her husband.
As the teaser reaches a climax, fans are given a montage of romantic moments between George and Charlotte to contrast the darker storyline.
In true Queen Charlotte style, the trailer ends on a zinger from the sharp-witted older iteration of the royal after Violet suggests: “Love can bloom from the thorniest of gardens.”
Queen Charlotte responds: “You flower metaphors makes me nauseated with their sweetness but I applaud your point.”
This trailer follows on from a previously released clip showing Charlotte and George meeting for the first time after she tries to climb a tree to escape over the palace garden walls to avoid marrying her betrothed.

What will happen in the Queen Charlotte Bridgerton series?
The show will be focusing on Charlotte and George’s love story after getting married as virtual strangers and falling passionately in love.
Moreover, the show will delve into George’s secret issues with the viewers and Charlotte very much in the dark.
But there is of course a Bridgerton twist to the tale with the show also imagining Queen Charlotte and King George III’s marriage bringing society together to form a multicultural Ton.
Again in season one of Bridgerton, it was suggested the Royal Family bestowed titles upon multicultural families to create a homogenous society and also in recognition of Queen Charlotte joining the monarchy.
