Byker Grove star works as £14 an hour cleaner but is still pals with Ant and Dec

Former Byker Grove actress Lyndyann Barrass has had a change of career since playing Spuggy in the iconic TV series.

The 47-year-old star now owns a house cleaning firm and lives in Sunderland.

She was watched by millions of children every week but the role put her off acting for good.

After her Byker Grove days, Lyndyann joined a girl band but things didn't go to plan.

"Aged 21, I joined a band called Angel, but we weren’t successful and I left after a year," she told The Sun.

"Three years later, I was beaten unconscious in the street by three strangers who recognised me as Spuggy.

"Thankfully, I wasn’t badly injured, but it was the final straw. I decided to quit show business for good."

After 17 years away from television screens, Byker Grove is set to make an epic comeback.

Former stars Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly are reviving the show which catapulted them to fame.

The new series will be named Byker and will be filmed in and around the North East.

Ant and Dec will serve as executive producers and Lyndyann appears to be eyeing up a role.

She revealed that she's already contacted Dec to tell him know that she's interested in a cameo appearance.

"We were just always around each other and always got on. I called him ‘Deccie poos’ which really irritated him but we had a lot of fun," Lyndyann told the publication.

The TV star has remained close to the Geordie duo and they provided her support when her daughter Scarlette was hospitalised with a life-threatening condition a few years ago.

After Lyndyann told Dec about what the family had been through, a parcel came through the door containing a yellow star from one of the I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Bushtucker Trials signed by both presenters.
