IN A behind-the-scenes sneak peak at the new season of Call the Midwife, producers hint that some of the nuns may 'abandon' Poplar to travel further afield with a mystery mother.
A snap from the set shows Nurse Phyllis Crane and Miss Higgins far from the grime and bustle of East London as they link arms with an unknown pregnant woman.
In the photo the trio are facing a set of railway tracks by the seaside, with waves crashing in the background.
The mum-to-be looks ready to pop as she is supported by the two regular cast members.
Nurse Crane and the beloved GP receptionist also have overnight bags hanging from their free arms.
Show bosses posted the snap to Instagram and revealed a little bit about the team's day out to film in Sussex – but the reason behind the excursion will remain a mystery until the new season comes out.

"What do we have here?? Have Nurse Crane and Miss Higgins abandoned Poplar for the delights of the English Riviera? And who is that young mother-to-be that they're attending to….?
"Last week our team took a special excursion away from the smoke-filled streets of the Sixties East End to film in the fresh coastal air of Sussex.
"The weather was….well, as you'd expect from England in September – sunny, rainy, stormy, bright, cold and warm all in one day!!!! But our intrepid crew made the best of it, and much fun was had by all!

"This sequence was for episode 5 of season 13…. which means that we're racing on with our filming for the next series! Just three more eps to film after this one. The Autumn winds were blowing on the beach, and the light was closing in much earlier – which told us that it wouldn't be too long to wait now until our brand new Christmas episode!!!"
They also let eager fans know the date that season 13 will be airing, adding: "Call the Midwife returns with a new Christmas Special, and Series 13 in 2024."
One keen bean responded: "Can’t wait! Miss Higgins and Nurse Crane are my favourite duo."
Another added: "So excited for another season!!!! I hope this show never ends. It’s so timeless."
