Captain Sandy Yawn says Below Deck’s Captain Lee relationship is ‘non-existent’

Below Deck Mediterranean: Bravo previews latest season

Captain Sandy Yawn has described her relationship with Below Deck’s Captain Lee Rosbach as “non-existent”.

Below Deck Mediterranean season eight will be making its debut on Monday, September 25, on Bravo and the following day on streaming service Hayu internationally.

While the rest of the crew changes every series, the one constant in the sea-set reality series is Captain Sandy Yawn who has been leading teams since season two.

And this eighth outing will be no different with Sandy, 59, returning for the new episodes but she did make an unexpected step into the world of the original show Below Deck.

The main series’ regular captain Lee Rosbach had to take a temporary step back from the show for health reasons and so Sandy was asked to stand in for him.

Some may have thought this could have been a personal favour from Sandy to Lee but it seems as if this wasn’t the case.

In fact, speaking exclusively to, Sandy made it clear where she stands with the silver-haired leader.

When asked about the dynamic with the other captains in the Below Deck franchise, she explained: “We all talk to each other, we all ask each other questions but for me, I think I’m closer with Kerry [Titheradge], because he reaches out more and we talk often, he’s in Florida.

“Captain Lee [Rosbach], we don’t have a relationship, it’s just non-existent.”

She continued: “Jason [Chambers] and I have corresponded through Whatsapp.

“Captain Glenn [Sheppard], of course, and I see them at BravoCon but we don’t see each other, whereas Kerry I see in Florida so we have more of a relationship.”

Sandy and Lee are the longest-serving members of the Below Deck franchise, with the latter starring in the show from the very beginning.

Whereas Captain Kerry Titheradge’s Below Deck Adventure has only been airing since last year, Captain Glenn Shephard’s Below Deck Sailing Yacht since 2020 and Captain Jason Chambers’ Below Deck Down Under also premiering in 2022.

Describing what to expect from season eight, its description reads: “Set amidst the mesmerising Italian Riviera and the historic façade of Genoa, Italy, it’s all hands on deck this season for Captain Sandy and her team.

“From outrageous guests to after-hours antics, the boat gets rocked throughout each charter as the crew navigates complicated dynamics and unexpected rifts.

“In a franchise first, unprecedented staffing changes dominate the season, which tests each department as they struggle to find their sea legs through unforeseen turnover.”

Stream the brand-new season of Below Deck Mediterranean on Hayu from September 26. Captain Sandy also tours theatres in Captain Sandy Live from September 21.
