Celebrity Race Across the World fans shocked as star is forced to quit show before final journey | The Sun

VIEWERS were shocked to see one star quit Celebrity Race Across the World ahead of the finale.

F4 racing driver Billy Monger had been doing well in the competition to make it from Morocco to Norway before getting news of a family emergency.

He was paired up with his sister Bonny on the BBC show and the pair were fan favourites to win before they pulled out of the race.

The dramatic reveal that Billy and Bonny had left came at the beginning of the final episode as all other competitors were handed a letter explaining the duo had to return to the UK.

The sports commentator later took to social media to share the personal reason behind having to leave the show at the final hurdle.

He wrote: "Bon and I were gutted to have to leave the race. A close family member had a bad accident so we had to get home. Thankfully all ok now. We loved the journey!"

A third sympathised: "Gutted as wanted you guys to win. Such a strong bond between you and Bonny. I admire your decision to go home to support family. Thinking of others always."

And one viewer shared that despite Alex Beresford taking home the top spot, Billy and Bonny are the winners in their eyes.

Someone agreed, writing: "We missed you guys on last nights episode. Reckon you would've beaten Alex & Noel to first place!"
