Tess Daly on her close friendship with Claudia Winkleman
Jack Whitehall and Laura Whitmore joined Claudia Winkleman on her Radio 2 show to discuss the weekend’s celebrations of King Charles III.
Jack began to explain how much his dad was looking forward to the Coronation and explained: “Obviously for him, he’s really excited as well.
“Because The Coronation is like Tory Glastonbury, it’s this huge event, I think he’s excited” which Claudia interrupted and quipped: “Tory Christmas.”
Jack quickly moved past the comment and Claudia continued her show, but listeners of the BBC Radio show were left divided by her remark.
Taking to their Twitter accounts, user @steveinbali fumed: “Claudia Winkleman using her Radio 2 show to mock the Coronation as ‘Tory Christmas’, [the] woman shut it.”
@Lourowson77 commented:” All these overpaid BBC champagne socialists are arrogant virtue-signalling leeches. They should be made to keep their opinions to themselves/Claudia Winkleman calls Coronation ‘Tory Christmas’ on BBC Radio show.”
@JohnR2106 expressed: “Another high paid BBC presenter jump on her political bandwagon. Claudia Winkleman takes the public money and sticks two fingers up to them.” (sic)
However, not all listeners were annoyed by the comment, as @eddo_ praised: “Claudia Winkleman just called the #CoronationWeekend ‘Tory Christmas’ live on BBC Radio 2. Preach.”
@TheRockFairyHQ expressed: “Claudia Winkleman calling the Coronation the Tory Christmas is sending me.”

@IMTHATMERC laughed: “CLAUDIA WINKLEMAN YOU HAVE ROCKED MY WORLD.” (sic)
Claudia’s comment came as a surprise as her half-sister, Peep Show actor Sophie Winkleman, is married to Lord Freddie Windsor, the son of the Queen’s first cousin Prince Michael of Kent.
Also during his time on the show, Jack added his dad was “over the moon” and “will be watching every second of it.”
Speaking about his mother, the comedian told the host: “My mum camped out on The Mall and is down there right now. She’s been there for three days.
“It’s insane. She’s there with a load of people I don’t think she’s ever met before. She is genuinely a royal enthusiast.
“I think it’s because she made a promise to one of her friends, like, 40 years ago that they’d go to the Coronation, so there is one of her friends there.”
Jack’s mother isn’t the only one to have camped out, as huge crowds formed across the country today to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.
Fans who had been camping out to celebrate the historic day were left emotional and in tears after meeting the royal.
Claudia Winkleman airs Saturday from 6am on BBC Radio 2.
