Coronation Street fans have flooded social media with theories over the fate of Max Turner (played by Paddy Bever) after his own father David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) calls the police over the trolling of Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon). However, ITV viewers believe his dad has made a bad judgement call.

Max was arrested on Wednesday’s episode of Coronation Street for making online threats to kill Maria.

Hiding behind the username Sadboy55, someone has been making life a misery for the aspiring politician.

Suspicious viewers have speculated on Twitter about the true identity of the troll.

Roberto tweeted: “I deffo think there will be something going on between Tim and Aggy #corrie @itvcorrie and poor Max I don’t think it’s him maybe shona [sic].”

Ruby agreed: “Mad guess. But its gunna be SHONA trolling Maria isn’t it. Not max. Hence another big pregnancy write out for the actress playing her [sic].”

Michelle penned: “As much as i loathe Max i don’t think he did it [sic].”

PollyK wrote: “Definitely think they’re leading us up the garden path with Max! Far too obvious.”

Some fans looked elsewhere in Weatherfield for potential suspects and who the keyboard warrior may be.

Ryan tweeted: “Wonder if Max’s bullies are trolling Maria? They could of seen where she lives.”

Beardy Bill joked: “I bet Max isn’t sadboy55 – the twist will be Roy is the clandestine leader of a national action cell, run out of the cafe.”

David called the police on his son and duly seized the teenager’s devices as Shona Ramsey (Julia Goulding) accompanied Max to the station.

Actress Samia, who has played Maria for over 20 years, opened up about how Maria is coping with the comments after she became a councillor.

Maria was the target of photoshopped images, with deepfake technology which made her look like she starred in an adult film.

She told the South Wales Evening Post: “She’s absolutely mortified.

“One, that it even exists, and two, that [her son] Liam has seen this video and thinks that it’s her – these deepfakes actually look like the person.

“So she’s absolutely mortified thinking that everyone’s going to think that she’s been doing pornography.

“She thinks that everyone who voted her in as councillor will see this video and think that she’s someone that she’s not.”

The storyline started after Maria requested to have the bins in the area changed to allow more recycling.

Since her recycling crusade has progressed, the amount of hate online has increased.

But, fans will have to wait to see whether it is Max who is the guilty @sadboy55.

Coronation Street continues Friday at 8pm on ITV.
