Coronation Street legend Wendi Peters reveals real reason she never returned as Cilla Battersby-Brown | The Sun

CORONATION Street icon Wendi Peters has revealed why she has never made a return as Cilla Battersby-Brown.

Despite starring in the ITV soap for just three years, Wendi’s turn as Cilla saw her become a Coronation Street legend.

She quit in 2007 and later made a brief return in 2014 where it was revealed Cilla was ill, but her rejection by her children saw her flee Weatherfield again.

And while recently Cilla’s return would have made sense with Fiz’s trials and tribulations and Chesney’s wedding, there’s a big reason why she’s never come back – she hasn’t been asked.

“Well I went back once for a bit but I haven’t been back since,” she told The Sun.

“I haven’t been asked. I’m always busy doing stuff. I’ve been busy doing theatre and stuff like that.”

She added: “Look I am thrilled to have played her and I loved playing her but it’s also been wonderful to go off and do lots of other things.”

But recently after years of touring and starring in dramas, Wendi has made a return to soaps with a new role in Doctors as the villainous Dr Nina Bulsara.

“I love it,” Wendi gushed.

“I’m having such a great time. They are the nicest bunch of people and I love the fact it’s very small and it’s very intimate and we all get to work together all the time and we all know each other.

“I always used to say it about another soap I was in, it’s a big family but this is a little family. It’s a really special place to work and I’m loving every minute of it.”

And she’s found that her experiences on the cobbles have made Doctors a breeze.

She added: “I think because of schedule wise and how everything goes, yes it helped to be in Corrie first.
