Former Coronation Street star Twana Omer’s next role has been revealed, just days after character Daryan Zahaw left the Street.
The actor, who first appeared on the ITV soap back in October 2022, will be heading to the US to join the cast of The Jungle, a play set inside the Calais Jungle migrant camp.
The Broadway show opened in February, with Twana appearing until the end of the month.
He will then rejoin the cast at the end of April, when the production heads to Washington for an off-Broadway run.
During his time on Coronation Street, Twana’s character, Daryan, was involved in a big storyline that saw Max Turner (Paddy Bever) groomed by an extremist far-right group.
Refugee Daryan was subject to a cruel attack from the gang, which was later infiltrated by police after Spider Nugent (Martin Hancock) went undercover, posing as a member.
Since then, Daryan has tracked down his lost brother, with the residents of the Street rallying round to gather the money to send him to Nottingham. They succeeded, and he headed off to reunite with him.
Twana is not the only former cast member to be swapping the cobbles of Weatherfield for the bright lights of Broadway, as Corrie icon Julie Hesmondhalgh has also joined The Jungle cast.
Julie played the much loved Hayley Cropper from 1998 until her heart-breaking death in 2014.
She made a huge impact as soap’s first transgender character, with viewers instantly falling in love with her relationship with husband Roy Cropper (David Neilson).
Even now, nine years after her exit, she has had viewers up in arms, when her famous red coat was accidentally given to a charity shop.
Since leaving the show, she has also appeared in high-profile drama’s including Broadchurch and Happy Valley.
She will be taking on the role of Paula in The Jungle, performing opposite Twana as Norullah.
