There was a Coronation Street reunion for Millie Gibson and her former on-screen mum Kel Allen recently when they enjoyed a night on the town together – the town in this case being Salford Quays, where Corrie is filmed.
The pair headed out for an evening at The Alchemist, a cocktail bar and restaurant in the MediaCityUK complex, along with two friends.
Millie shared a picture to her Instagram which shows the group enjoying cocktails and looking like they’re having a great night out. Millie is wearing a denim corset top and skirt along with black boots while Kel is in jeans and T shirt.
Kel left the soap in April this year as her character, Laura Neelan, died of cancer.
Millie, who plays Kelly Neelan, told Metro.co.uk that the scenes where Laura was dying were particularly difficult for her and Kel to film.
‘I remember one specific day when me and Kel were filming her dying scene we were both in bits,’ she recalled.
‘We couldn’t stop crying. We both rang our mums on the lunch break because we were literally shaking because we had to keep ourselves crying all day.’
She spoke warmly of her working relationship with Kel, saying, ‘What I loved when you saw scenes with Laura, they have the same sort of idiosyncrasies and the same characteristics, even how they talk.
‘It was really great working with Kel.’
And clearly the working relationship has also extended to a real-life friendship for Millie and Kel.
