I was one of the 90s’ biggest stars and clashed with Beyonce – before taking up pottery and getting a very normal job | The Sun

DES'REE was responsible for some of the biggest hits of the nineties but now lives a life away from the limelight.

The singer, whose hit Kissing You scooped world fame after it was featured on Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet, now spends her time making pottery.

Des'ree is also best known for her 1998 track Life, Feel So High and You Gotta Be.

After disappearing from the public eye after the nineties, she cropped back up in 2007 after launching a lawsuit against Beyonce.

Des'ree alleged that the megastar didn't get permission to cover I'm Kissing You, which she released in 2006 under the name Still in Love (Kissing You).

The 54-year-old demanded $150,000 in damages and she claimed that despite her saying no to the track being used, Bey recorded the song anyway.

The high-profile lawsuit was eventually dismissed but the song was removed from Beyonce's B'Day album.

After suffering from low self-confidence, chronic stage fright and a fear of flying, Des'ree thought her 2003 Dream Solider album would be her last.

She also took on Janet Jackson over similarities between Jackson's single Got Till It's Gone and Des'ree's earlier hit Feel So High.

It's been reported that she bagged at least two million pounds from that settlement.

She was also battling low energy due to an underactive thyroid and after her record company Sony did not agree to another album – she walked away from the music industry.

Proving that it's never too late to reinvent yourself, Des'ree trained as a nutritionist and naturopath.

A naturopath is a health practitioner who uses natural therapies like diet-based therapies and traditional Chinese medicine.

She's also a trained potter, painter and jewellery maker.

In 2014 Des'ree stepped back into the studio purely to make music for the love of it.

But tragically for the singer, her mum became seriously ill and she and her sisters became carers.

In 2019 she released A Love Story, which was released in October of that year.
