Coronation Street star warns of dark twist for character as he turns into a 'professional liar' | The Sun

CORONATION Street star Trevor Michael Georges has confessed that his character Ed Bailey is about to take a dark turn in the soap.

Fans have watched on over recent weeks on the ITV soap opera as Ed appeared to slip into his old gambling habits.

The storyline is expected to take a heated turn as Ed continues to conceal his struggles from the rest of the Bailey clan with the actor confessing he will become a "professional liar".

With his children, Michael and Dee-Dee, seemingly unaware of what is going on, Ed has already begun to impersonate deceased show legend Norris Cole by applying for a bank card in his name.

But now as his addiction hangs over him once again, actor Trevor has opened up on the dark path that Ed is about to find himself on.

The star said: "The Baileys came to Coronation Street due to Ed bringing his whole family into crisis and almost lost everything due to his gambling addiction.

"When they moved to Corrie, they took everything that they had left and you can actually see that the furniture barely fits into their current house due to the size difference.

"This is a constant reminder to Ed that he used to be someone else… I don't think that guilt will ever leave him.

"I feel this really emphasises the tragedy behind Ed getting sucked back into gambling because he truly thought he had conquered it."

With his wife Aggie currently off-screen, it has allowed Ed even more time to be alone with his thoughts and fall down this dangerous rabbit hole.

Soon, he will risk being exposed after coming into conflict with Michael and he will find himself in yet another web of lies.

Teasing the tense scenes, Trevor said: "A professional liar at this point is definitely the right term.

"I think with gamblers and most addicts, they are not aware of how brilliant an actor they are.

"Improvising on the spot isn't something that most people can do easily… Whereas addicts are great at covering all of their sources and can think a way round of everything."

Ed and brother Ronnie currently have their finances tied up in a new housing project but could the project fall through as a result of Ed's callous spending habits?
