Stephen Reid (played by Todd Boyce) inadvertently killed Leo Thompkins (Joe Frost) when the toy boy’s attempts to expose Audrey Roberts’ (Sue Nicholls) son backfired. However, could Coronation Street have another serial killer on its hands as Stephen does everything in his power to keep his killer secret hidden?

In Monday’s episode, Leo met a tragic end after trying to expose Stephen as a liar.

Although Stephen didn’t mean to kill his love rival, it’s clear he will do whatever it takes to keep his true devious motives secret from Audrey and the rest of his neighbours.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press, Stephen star Todd opened up on how his character will respond to Leo’s death.

The Coronation Street star began: “He goes back to the scene of the crime.

“I think he’s guilt ridden and he’s at the back of Underworld and he sees Leo’s phone, which we were scuffling over, which had been forgotten about on the ground and manages to make it seem like Leo is in Canada.

“He sneaks into the pub because he overhears from Gemma [Winter] (Dolly-Rose Campbell) that the suitcase and the passport are in the back room.

“I filmed that the other day, you feel so creepy, because it’s exactly how I would steal something so you really are exposing yourself as a thief and a bad guy.

“The world thinks well, his passport’s gone his suitcase’s gone, he’s sending text messages saying everything’s great in Canada so it’s a perfect cover.”

Many fans suspected Stephen will kill Audrey so he can get his hands on her money but his next victim could be someone entirely different.

Stephen’s kiss with Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) has provided the perfect cover for the killer to pretend Leo has simply left Weatherfield behind for good.

However, if it’s revealed Stephen was spotted with Leo’s possessions, the figure of suspicion would be pointed towards him.

Gemma has no reason to suspect Stephen of any wrongdoing but could she have come across Stephen moving Leo’s passport and suitcase.

She may innocently bring it up to Stephen questioning the timeline of Leo’s departure from the cobbles.

Coronation Street fans have seen how far Stephen is prepared to go to keep his kill secret safe.

Will he lash out for a second time and kill beloved resident Gemma?

Todd admitted Stephen isn’t a “killer” but is prepared to fight for what he wants.

The actor continued: “Probably like everyone in the world I’ve spent my life thinking the worst thing that you could possibly do is be the reason for someone dying.

“We were filming a scene the other day and Jenny stops me outside the bistro and says, ‘Clever ploy telling Leo about our kiss and I said, ‘I thought he knew,’ [he was] lying.

“And then I leave Jenny and Carla shouts at me and she says, ‘Get in here’ [because] police cars are parked outside Underworld.

“And from leaving Jenny to get to Carla, I started to cry because that’s the natural [reaction].”

“He’s so alone with this secret so I think he’s definitely feeling guilt he’s not a killer he’s just happened to have killed someone,” he added.

Jenny believes Leo changed his mind about their future together and fled to Canada.

However, the more time she spends with Stephen will she begin to suspect Leo didn’t leave after all?

Coronation Street airs on ITV on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm.
