Coronation Street viewers baffled over Weatherfield ‘imposter’ as role recast

Coronation Street: Adam exposes lying pregnant wife Sarah at gender reveal party

Coronation Street viewers were left baffled on Friday night after noticing the actress who plays Ruby Dobbs, Maci Alabi, had been recast.

As well as Fizz Dobbs (played by Jennie McAlpine) being away from the ITV soap, Ruby hasn’t been seen for a while but has still been briefly mentioned throughout some scenes.

During the latest episode Ruby (Billie Naylor) returned alongside her half-sister Hope Dobbs (Isabelle Flanagan) as they were practising for the Little Big Shotz solo part.

However, eagle-eyed viewers noticed the actress who played the part of Ruby had changed, complaining she also had a “personality transplant”.

Taking to their Twitter accounts, user @FillsWhales asked: “Who the f**k is this Ruby imposter? #Corrie.”

@wildtwo66 added: “Ruby’s been kidnapped and an imposter’s taken her place!!#Corrie.”

@ADADAPPADAN sad: “Huh?!? That’s not, Ruby Dobbs! Imposterrr! #Corrie.” (sic)

Maci, who played Ruby from 2012 onwards, is said to have left the soap to begin her studies at high school.

During tonight’s episode, Ruby and Hope attended a class at the community centre, run by Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger).

As the children auditioned for a role in Glenda’s musical, Ruby was thrilled to have won the lead role.

Glenda announced that the other children including Hope would be serving as Ruby’s backing singers, leaving her less than pleased.

The sisters have a fractured relationship already, so will this push Hope over the edge?

Will she get revenge on her sister for “stealing” her spotlight?

In upcoming scenes which will air next week, Glenda learns the day before the performance that the community centre is unavailable.

She is left reeling when Gerry Northrop (Graham Turner) reveals he has booked the community centre all day, leaving Glenda unsure whether the performance will be able to go ahead.

Fortunately, Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) suggests she holds the show in the Bistro, which Glenda thinks is a fabulous idea. Has Ruby’s solo been saved?

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV.
