Coronation Street star Liam McCheyne, who plays young Dylan Wilson, has been caught up in a bullying storyline since he returned to the cobbles earlier this year.
The young actor, 16, made his debut as Dylan back in 2011 when he joined the hit ITV soap alongside his twin brother Connor when they were just three years old, he has played the role on and off since.
In February this year, Dylan took a short break and returned in September – he is now thought to remain on the cobbles for a while with his latest storyline.
Sharing how it felt to return to Corrie, Liam said: "It was a long wait, but it was worth the wait. It’s been great to be back." The TV star went on to share that it was a "total fluke" on how he first appeared on the cobbles.
Explaining this he said: "My neighbour across the road was on work experience for a local agency and she asked my mum if we would want to go and do an audition for her. She said even if we didn’t get it, it would help her with her work experience.
"My mum, dad and even nursery teachers all thought we would be too shy to do it. When we got here, and were in the casting, as soon as the cameras were on, we were like totally different children with our confidence and were laughing away."
While his twin brother no longer acts, Liam realised he wanted to be an actor "forever" when he was around 13 or 14 years old, having taken on a string of other TV roles. Aside from Corrie, the 16 year old has starred in All Creatures Great and Small, Last Tango in Halifax, The Bay, Moving On and the TV movie Mother's Day.
The star said being back on the cobbles "is like a family and I’m grateful to be a part of it".
Last month, viewers were introduced to the heart-wrenching school bullying storyline that saw Dylan, Liam Connor and Mason Radcliffe picking on Ruby Dobbs. Things between the three boys have escalated since, with more trouble on the horizon as Mason continues to influence Dylan.
Talking about his character's relationship with Mason, actor Liam said: "I think Dylan is very naive in what he's going into. I think Sean realises how dangerous Mason’s influence is but Dylan ignores him quite a lot."
He continued: "Mason isn’t a true friend to Dylan" and "he’s very easily influenced so I don’t think he realises what he’s getting himself into."
When asked if Dylan wants to fit in or if he's in fact scared of Mason, the soap star said: "I think there's an element of both especially when we start hearing of what Mason has done and we don’t actually know what else he’s capable of doing. Ultimately, we're not going to go against him. So I do think it's a balance of both wanting to fit in and being scared of him."
"He doesn't want to be what he was in London – it's a total change to who he previously was. It's almost like a new start for him and he can have a bit of freedom so I think that would make him very easily influenced", Liam added.
As the storyline progresses Liam offers advice to anyone in a similar situation and says: "My advice would be to only listen to the people around you that mean a lot to you – your family and your true friends."
He added: "I would like to tell Dylan to listen to them because they're only looking out for your best interests."
