Corrie actor rushes to support co-stars as soap tackles ‘deeply delicate topic’

Ex-Coronation Street star Jack James Ryan has praised his former colleagues as the ITV soap tackles sexual content.

It was announced earlier this year that Amy Barlow and Aaron Sandford will be at the centre of a gripping storyline.

Last week, viewers are aware Aaron have sex with Amy despite her telling him she was drunk and felt sick.

Jack, who played Aaron and Amy's housemate and Amy's boyfriend – Jacob Hay, and is good friends with his former co-stars in real life, praised them for the story on social media.

"Honestly, the pride I have for these two for tackling such a multifaceted and deeply delicate topic knows no bounds " he wrote alongside a picture of Elle Mulvaney and James Craven.

"They have worked tirelessly to bring this story to your screens and have really put the work in outside of studio to deliver this story with clarity, nuance and sensitivity.

"Proud too of @coronationstreet for giving this topic the air time it so rightly deserves headed up by two fantastic actors who deserve to tell it. I'll be tuned in."

The story will bring in friends, family and the police as people have different reactions based upon their varying understandings of what consent is.

Corrie have also worked with a charity to raise awareness of what constitutes crossing the line and how it can affect people.

In upcoming scenes, A hungover Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) wakes up with no memory of how she got into bed.

As the youngsters meet at Speed Daal for lunch, Aaron Sandford (James Craven) tells Amy that things went too far and they shouldn’t have slept together.

Amy reels in shock at the enormity of his revelation.

Having made up with Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby), Aaron catches up with Amy on the street and begs her to forget about their drunken sex.

When Amy asserts that she was far too drunk to consent, Aaron goes all out to convince Amy that she wanted sex as much as he did and they’re equally responsible for what happened.

Having had an awful night’s sleep and missed her lecture, Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson)worries about Amy.

Unable to come up with an excuse, Amy agrees to meet Summer for a drink but when she realises Aaron is there too, and has invited a mate, she makes excuses and leaves.

When Summer reveals that she’s hoping to go to Manchester University to be near Aaron, Amy bristles and advises her to look further afield, Summer’s bemused.

Making out that he was as drunk as she was, Aaron begs Amy not to tell Summer that they slept together.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV1 and ITVX
