Corrie fans feel old as they recognise Big Garth stars previous TV role

Eagle-eyed Coronation Street fans feel rather old after realising a cobbles castmate starred in a TV show which aired in the 1980s.

Wednesday’s episode (November 8) saw Bernie meet with her friend Big Garth and ask him to sell the rest of their stolen goods at a knockdown price as she needed money more quickly. Big Garth followed these instructions, but a police officer soon spotted him handing a wad of cash to Bernie and arrested her on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

But it didn’t take long for fans to recognize Garth actor Victor McGuire from the 80s TV series, Bread. Victor starred as Jack Boswell in Carla Lane's Bread, which follows a close-knit, working-class family in Liverpool.

“Jesus "Bread" guy has put some timber in #corrie,” another agreed. McGuire appeared as Gary, one of the pair of thieves in Guy Ritchie's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels , and as Deputy Chief Constable Nadin in Mike Leigh's Peterloo .

Elsewhere in the episode, with Stephen's money seemingly having vanished, Sarah and Carla realized they had no way of paying the staff, unless they could get the new client order out the next day and agree on cash on delivery. But if they fail, the factory could close for good.

Carla had lied to the workers and assured them that the bank had traced the stolen money and they would all be paid by the end of the day. She had needed them to crack on with the order.

However, when her lie was uncovered, they had all downed tools, leaving Carla and Sarah begging them to reconsider, pointing out that if the order didn't go out, the factory would go under. Peter saved them by bringing in some of the locals to help out and get the order done in time.
