Corrie fans ‘figure out’ Bethany Platt’s return as icon ‘set to exit soap’

Coronation Street fans believe they have worked out how Bethany Platt is set to return to the show later this year.

Bethany, who is played by Lucy Fallon, was announced to be returning to the soap in due course.

Fallon, 27, is reported to be heading back to ITV studios in Salford in the coming weeks to film some new scenes for the character.

But fans will have to wait for Bethany to hit screens once again, as it is expected that her return will not be shown until the new year.

However, fans still have been speculating on what Bethany's return could mean for current storylines, including the eventual exit of on-screen mum Sarah Barlow.

Sarah, played by Tina O'Brien, has been at the centre of a dramatic storyline at the hands of serial killer Stephen Reid.

As well as this, fans will remember that hubby Adam said he wanted to divorce her after being hit with the news that she had cheated on him with rival Damon Hay.

He also was hurt that she had pretended to Adam that he was the father of her unborn baby, when in fact it was Damon's all along.

Things took a turn for the worse for Sarah, as she tragically lost the baby in heart-wrenching scenes.

Fans are now thinking that as Sarah loses everything around her, she may take some time away from the street with son Harry, which leaves the door open for Bethany to return.

Taking to social media, one user said: "With Bethany returning to #corrie this year for a guest stint, it begs the question… Will Sarah leave after she divorces Adam?".

Another wrote: "I wonder is Sarah going to take Harry and go visit Bethany? #Corrie".

Whilst a third believed that Bethany could save her mum and brother "now that Adam is out of the picture".

Bethany has been a prominent character in the soap recently after she joined the cobbles in 2015, but left the soap in 2020 after Lucy Fallon gained a magazine internship in London.

The character has played a role in prolific storylines including child grooming, which landed Lucy a number of awards.

Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, an insider revealed that ITV bosses had reached out to Lucy weeks ago about the potential to return to the soap, outlining what they had in store for Bethany if she agreed.

"She discussed it with her boyfriend and family, because she's a mum now with a baby. Once they'd talked about childcare, and how best to juggle it all, she was able to say she'd love to return," the source added.
