Corrie Stephen’s return confirmed as hes not really dead in huge twist

Coronation Street bad guy Stephen Reid could be making a shock return to the soap, according to AI.

The serial killer’s reign of terror finally came to an end last week. As fans will recall, Stephen, played by Todd Boyce, has claimed the lives of Teddy and Leo Thompkins, as well as his business associate Rufus Donahue.

He also stole money from his own mother Audrey Roberts and swindled Carla Connor out of the factory cash. He even dosed her with LSD to make her think she was having a psychotic episode.

But on Friday (October 13) Stephen met his match and was plowed down by Peter Barlow in his car after trying to escape the cobbles. His corpse was bundled away in a body bag and taken away by an ambulance crew.

Now, it’s been claimed Stephen could be returning to soap in a shock twist. And fans reckon we won’t have to wait too long.

Daily Star has quizzed quizzed one of the world’s most popular artificially intelligent “creative” tools Bard AI to see if Stephen could be back on Coronation Street. The program responded: “There is always the possibility that Stephen could return.”

Bard AI then noted a “few ways” that the bad guy could “theoretically” head back. It explained: “He could return in a flashback or dream sequence, or as a ghost or hallucination.“

The system then said: “One reason why Stephen could return is to provide closure for some of the characters who were affected by his crimes. For example, Jenny Connor, who was in a relationship with Stephen, may have unresolved feelings about his death.” It added: “Carla Barlow, who was poisoned by Stephen, may also have some unresolved anger towards him.”

Another reason AI reckons Stephen could return is to “introduce a new storyline.” The program said: “For example, if Stephen's ghost were to appear to Jenny, it could be a way to explore the idea of grief and loss. Or, if Stephen were to come back from the dead, it could lead to a new murder mystery storyline.”

Echoing Bard AI’s thoughts, fans of the soap also think Stephen could be back. And they’ve claimed he’ll be returning to to wreak havoc at Christmas.

Over on X, formerly known as Twitter, one person said: “I reckon Stephen will return for Christmas." Someone else mused: “They’re only going to catch Stephen at Christmas, aren’t they?”

Coronation Street continues Monday on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm
