Dancing On Ice’s Jayne Torvill to undergo surgery as she reveals painful injury

Dancing on Ice judge and former Olympic skater Jayne Torvill has revealed she is set to undergo surgery after rupturing the bicep tendon in her arm.

On Sunday's episode, Jayne, 65, stood next to her skating partner Christopher Dean as they chatted to one of the show’s hosts, Phillip Schofield, about the contestants using props during their performances this week.

Jayne, who sported an emerald sparkly dress, could be seen with a sling on her arm as she chatted to the This Morning presenter.

“What’s happened here,” Phil asked, to which Jayne explained, “Talking of things going wrong on the ice. I ruptured my bicep tendon, so I need to get surgery.”

Phil was taken aback by the revelation, though his concerned look broke when Christopher, 64, joked that he would be doing the surgery as he was “studying up” on the procedure.

“I will be back on the ice soon,” Jayne reassured.

Viewers were quick to share their well-wishes to Jayne as they took to Twitter to send messages of support.

One person wrote: "Hope Jayne Torvill gets well soon from her injury. Amazing that Torvill and Dean still ice skate together this many years on from when they were doing the Olympics."

"Poor Jayne I do hope she gets better soon," another said, while a third added, "Get well very soon Jayne #DancingOnIce."

"Awe best wishes to Jane having to have surgery on her arm, hope she gets better soon," another fan tweeted, to which someone added, "Aw Jane with her injury."

Jayne and Christopher's joint Twitter account also shared an image of Jayne in her sling, as someone replied: "Hope you are on the mend soon Jayne! Wishing you a speedy recovery."

Someone else added: "Oh no!!!! What’ve you done Jane?? Hope it’s not too painful xx"

Jayne and Christopher won the gold at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, and they also won the bronze at the Olympics in 1994 in Lillehammer, Norway.

The dynamic skating duo joined the BBC show in 2006 as mentors to the contestants before they were prompted to head judges in 2018 with the addition of a new judge, Diversity's Ashley Banjo.
