Dianne Wiest Not Returning For ‘Mayor Of Kingstown’ Season 3 – The Dish

EXCLUSIVE: The McLusky will be down another member next season, I hear. According to sources, Dianne Wiest will not be returning to Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ drama series for its upcoming third season.

There has been chatter about Wiest’s potential departure for months; rumors intensified this week as scripts for Season 3 — written before the writers strike and on hold for the duration — are now being finalized with the strike ending. Her exit is said to be story-driven.

Teased by series star/executive producer Jeremy Renner in late May, Mayor of Kingstown was officially renewed for a third season earlier this month. A rep for MTV Entertainment Studios, which produces the series, declined comment.

Created by Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, Mayor Of Kingstown follows the McLusky family, power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry.

Two-time Oscar winner Wiest plays Mariam McLusky, the matriarch of the McLusky brothers. In the explosive Season 2 finale, Mariam found herself in a hospital, undergoing surgery, after being accidentally shot in the stomach by the youngest brother, Kyle McLusky. The oldest sibling, Mitch, played by Kyle Chandler, was killed off in the Mayor of Kingstown series premiere.

After the SAG-AFTRA strike ends, Renner will be returning to Mayor Of Kingstown following an extensive recovery process after he was critically injured in a January 1 snowplow accident. Season 2 of the series debuted two weeks later, on Jan. 15, and wrapped its run March 19.

Mayor of Kingstown, produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios and Bosque Ranch Productions, is believed to be one of tParamount+’s top performing original dramas, only trailing Sheridan’s 1923 and Tulsa King while in season. Executive producing are Sheridan, Dillon, Renner, Antoine Fuqua, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Michael Friedman, Dave Erickson and Regina Corrado
