Emmerdale star Mark Charnock has fallen victim to an online scammer who has stolen his identity.
Recently, a new Instagram account popped up claiming to be the actor, who plays Marlon Dingle in the ITV soap, which had completely copied his profile picture and bio.
Taking to Instagram himself, Mark slammed the scammer for using a picture of three of his late friends to try and verify his identity.
The picture in question was one of late Emmerdale icons Richard Thorp, Paula Tilbrook and Meg Johnson on set.
Following the sad passing of Meg Johnson, who played Pearl Ladderbanks on the show until 2020, Mark posted the picture to his own account as a tribute to his late colleagues, pointing out that they were ‘so very very missed’.
‘This person,’ he wrote of the scammer, ‘whilst pretending to be me has sickeningly used my photo of 3 colleagues of mine who have sadly passed away to authenticate his or her username.
‘It disgusts me and I hope you feel the same. Please block and report this person.’
His calls to block the account were answered by followers, who were keen to point out that they were equally as disgusted as he was.
‘I have reported and block their account Mark. It is sick they are using your late colleagues to promote this fake account!’ One follower wrote.
‘Vile. Insta & Fb & Twitter need to do a lot more to close these down,’ another said.
‘Just reported it hopefully it gets sorted soon.’ a third wrote, followed by a love heart emoji.
It seems that Mark’s call to action worked, as the scammer’s account has since been removed from the platform.
