Distraught Coronation Street fans unable to cope after emotional death scene

Coronation Street has aired its saddest death yet, and fans are unable to cope.

The emotional scenes aired last night (March 22) and showed Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) in tears as she made the difficult decision to have her beloved dog Cerberus put to sleep.

After worrying that he wasn’t acting like himself, Evelyn and Tyrone (Alan Halsall) took Cerberus to see the vet, who ran some tests and informed them that his kidneys were failing.

Evelyn was absolutely crushed, but ultimately decided that she didn’t want to see her four legged friend suffer, and sat beside him as he was put to sleep.

As the devastating scenes aired, fans took to Twitter to express their heartbreak.

‘I had to say goodbye to my real dog on Zoom, so it wasn’t much of a stretch to imagine this,’ she explained.

‘I really liked Cerberus, Boss is his name and he’s a lovely dog, seriously sweet natured and an incredibly beautiful hound. Gorgeous.’

This moving episode came ahead of Maureen’s temporary exit from the show.

The actress is returning to the theatre for one-woman show Rose, which will play in the West End later this year.

However, fans can expect her to return to Coronation Street at the end of the run.

Unfortunately, Boss has said his final farewell to the cobbles, and we will certainly miss Cerberus.
