E4 bosses to still air MAFS despite George’s ‘arrest for controlling and coercive behaviour’

E4 bosses have announced thatMarried At First Sight UKwill continue to air, despitethe arrest of George Roberts , one of this series' participants.

Roberts, 40, is reportedly facing a police investigation over allegations of coercive control and harassment, afterthree of his ex-girlfriends accused him of emotional abuse.

In a statement, the Met Police told OK!: “A 40-year-old man was arrested by Met officers in Worcestershire on Thursday, 29 September on suspicion of controlling and coercive behaviour.

“He was taken to a Worcestershire police station and subsequently bailed to return pending further enquiries.

“This follows an allegation of controlling and coercive behaviour and harassment reported to the Met on Monday, 26 September.”

However, E4 bosses have decided to continue airing the show as scheduled, with new episodes airing daily.

As the episodes are pre-recorded Roberts will still be appearing in the upcoming episodes, with the decision raising concern among fans.

April Banbury, 33, the fashion designer and former Ms Great Britain he was married to on the show, recently revealed that she has been seeing a therapist since filming ended, although she does not specify that that this was due to George's behaviour.

She took to Instagram, where she wrote: “The traumas that have been brought on from this show have made me re-evaluate things. I’m not ashamed to admit, I’ve been seeing a therapist.”

A source told The Sun: “This has been rumbling on for a while but now the police are involved, so many involved in the show thought surely they would have to pull it off air — or at the very least re-edit it.

“This has become a nightmare for the network, who didn’t know about allegations in his past before.”

While E4 bosses continue to air the new episodes of the show a spokesperson told OK!: “We work incredibly closely with our production partners to ensure all Married at First Sight UK contributors are subject to rigorous background and psychological checks, including the most detailed police checks a production is able to undertake.

"Any allegations of this nature are taken extremely seriously by Channel 4.”

When the allegations first came to light a spokesperson for George said: “George categorically denies these allegations.

"As a father of daughters he finds these accusations deeply upsetting and does not condone abuse nor behaves in that way.

“These allegations were never brought to his attention, investigated or taken further by the police for good reason as they are simply not true.”

No further statements have come from George, or anyone representing him, following the alleged arrest.
