EastEnders boss tease twist as Jay bonds with ‘unlikely person’ after Lola death

EastEnders boss Chris Clenshaw has revealed Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) will find friendship with a surprising person in the coming weeks.

Last week, Jay watched Lola Pearce's (Danielle Harold) life slip away as she succumbed to her terminal brain tumour after being diagnosed in October 2022.

In a recent episode of the BBC soap, Jay had an emotional day with Ben Mitchell as they shared Lola’s memory box with Lexi (Isabella Brown).

But while that helped Lexi open up, it became clear Jay was struggling in the midst of his all-consuming grief.

As Jay attempts to move forward following his wife's tragic passing, EastEnders' Executive Producer Chris teased what is next for the heartbroken character.

He told Daily Star and other press: "Billy, Jamie, Ben and Lexi all pull together and are there for each other, but that won't last forever.

"Jay will find friendship with an unlikely person."

Danielle, who made her first appearance as Lola in 2011, admitted she was excited to get back to her normal life after committing everything to perfect the difficult storyline.

The 31-year-old explained: "I'm definitely going to have a holiday. I really committed from the beginning to make sure that I really followed everything that I could correctly.

"So I haven't had a tan or had my nails done for so long. I can't wait to get back to who I was after this because it becomes such a part of you."

The blonde beauty admitted she originally had reservations about being given the gut-wrenching storyline because she wasn't sure how the audience felt about Lola.

Turning to Chris, she said: "But when you told me that I was like, 'I don't think she is. I think you've picked the wrong person,' and I was like, 'I don't think you're going to get this big thing that you want because it's me'," she explained.

She went on to thank the BBC boss for giving her this kind of exit and allowing her to fulfil Lola's journey before she left.

The soap star gushed: "I can't thank Chris enough for giving me the best exit. I can't thank him enough for the way that it's been done."
