EastEnders fans think they know George Knights wife is – and its a past character

It didn't take long forEastEnderssuper sleuth fans to predict a major plotline twist is beckoning after thearrival of George Knighton Thursday evening. After many hints were dropped by the character about his mystery wife and the mother of his two daughters, eagle-eyed fans think they know who she is.

After cryptic clues and hidden secrets galore, fans believe that she is in fact a past character returning to our screens – and an evil one at that.

The new lover of Elaine Peacock, George, played byColin Salmon , has arrived on Albert Square alongside his two daughters Anna and Gina (played byStrictly's Molly Rainfordand newcomer Francesca Henry), to help Elaine run the legendary pub.

Not everyone is impressed by George's arrival though with Linda Carter (Kelle Bright) furious to discover that her mum, Elaine, is welcoming into the Vic – and she's convinced all is not what it seems with him.

The girls' mother's whereabouts or whether she is even alive were not revealed but detective fans watched as George received a mystery phonecall where he told an unknown character it wasn't a great time to chat, but he'd be in touch the next day.

Meanwhile, George's daughters revealed to viewers that they have their mother's jewellery box, but Gina pointed out to Anna that they shouldn't have it, with Anna retorting that she needed something to "remember her mum by."

The mystery talk and cryptic clues hinted that there was a secret throughout the episode.

Fans then watched as George spoke to Ben Mitchell who was struggling with a little Lexi after the death of her mother, Lola.

George offered sound advice to a bereft Ben, commenting that he had once been in a similar situation with his two girls left to grow up without a mum, too.

Confident fans are predicting thatCindy Bealeis George's late wife. It would mean a return from the dead for Cindy, played by Michelle Collins, but the soap has history with miraculously pulling this off in the past.

Cindy supposedly died in prison during childbirth but some believe she might have faked her death over 20 years ago and now she's back.

On fan even questioned on Twitter: "Wasn't Cindy's sister called Gina?" wondering if they had stumbled across another subtle clue of a mother-daughter name link.

George is a familiar face to some Walford residents already. Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) and Winston (Ulric Browne) recognise the newbie as a championship boxer.
