Danny said: "I don't know when she leaves or how she leaves but I know it's been announced. I'm just pleased to have worked with Lorraine and known her for five years.

"It will be a shame to see her go but I wish her the best of luck."

Lorraine has been axed from the show seven years after playing Karen.

A source told The Sun: “It’s always a tough call for bosses when deciding which characters will leave the soap, but it has to be done to keep storylines fresh and create new arcs for characters.

“Lorraine had a great run on the soap and was a real scene stealer with her comic timing and she has certainly made her mark with fans.”

Danny also opened up about what we should expect from Keanu and Sharon at Christmas time.

He told us: "It's going to be fiery, on and off, passionate, heartbreaking, a rollercoaster of a ride. Working with Letitia Dean, the queen, she is incredible. We've enjoyed it, so I hope the fans also enjoy our journey."

But what does he hope for the future of Keanu?

"To be honest, I play things in the moment, with the character right now he's involved in some complicated and twisted, deep stuff with Sharon and other members of the cast.

"I don't know what is going to happen with Keanu but I'm enjoying it."

Though as the big Christmas story has been revealed – is he worried he may be up for the chop, as a male on the cast will be killed off this winter.

"Am I worried? Every day I'm worried just about general life, let alone the show," he said.

The cast also teased viewers with who could be getting axed as ten males wore the same cuff links to the NTAs to hint who could be leaving the show.

Danny said: "There are ten other male actors with cufflinks on – I think it is quite smart, we're teasing the audience. But only Christmas will tell."
