EastEnders star needed to leave role as he opens up on exit

EastEnders: Keegan catches Tiffany hostessing for Dotty

EastEnders favourite Keegan Butcher-Baker (played by Zack Morris) made an exit from the soap in 2022 after five years on the soap, and has now detailed why he “needed to leave”.

The 24-year-old explained: “Ultimately, EastEnders was the perfect training ground for myself.

“It was the perfect place for me to gain exposure in the industry, and also get a feel, essentially, for what every little part of the industry was going to be – be that working on set long hours, be that script changes, the everyday life of a working actor, dealing with the media, being in the limelight.

“All that stuff that’s valuable going forward.”

Speaking to RTÉ.ie, he added: “When those opportunities arise… I had to go for that, so I needed permission to leave [EastEnders] to be able to do that.”

He went on to explain how he had the “backing” from his UK agent and US management in his decision to leave the programme.

Zack was 17 when he made his debut in the popular BBC soap as popular Keegan.

He was involved in some key storylines during his time on the show and Keegan’s relationship with Tiffany Butcher (Maisie Smith) kept viewers hooked.

After a breakup, Tiffany eventually reunited with Keegan, and the pair left together hand-in-hand after Zack’s brief return to the Square in 2022.

Since his EastEnders departure, Zack has gone on to land a role in a film, Jericho Ridge, appearing alongside Nikki Amuka-Bird.

Taking to Instagram, he recently shared a promotion for the film, captioning the snap: “Swipe for the trailer. Jericho Ridge, coming soon…”
