Award-winning EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick has assured fans that the aftermath of Lola Pearce’s (Danielle Harold) death is far from over – and is set to lead to a ‘huge’ new plot in the future.

Jamie, who won Best Actor at the Inside Soap Awards, made the intriguing promise when chatting to Metro.co.uk on the red carpet – and added that it will have a profound impact on a story that has already captured a nation’s attention.

‘There’s some stuff which is coming up – I think it’s going to be huge, it’s going to be really meaningful and do this story even more justice than it already has done,’ he said with a smile. ‘Watch this space!’

It’s bound to have a lot of eyes on it given how much acclaim the ongoing saga has won – not to mention the awards of the evening.

It was named by the voting public as the top soap storyline of the year, with Danielle Harold taking home Best Actress, Jamie winning Best Actor and Lexi star Isabelle Brown declared as the Best Young Performer.

Max Bowden was also named this year’s Soap Superstar, and the soap overall won the top accolade, beating back Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Hollyoaks.

On screen now, we are seeing struggling Jay become close to newcomer Nadine, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the late Lola.

Addressing the new development, Jamie went on: ‘After the actual death and funeral, they kind of panned away from us which is good.

‘People were like, we haven’t had much aftermath, what’s happening, here, there’s been big hiatus, nothing.

‘But we look into a bit more and the effects its really had – it’s good stuff.’

Heaping praise on actress Jazzy Phoenix, who plays Nadine, the actor enthused: ‘She was great, she was really nice and she was aware of Danielle’s space and didn’t want to tread on anyone’s toes or anything like that.

‘She was brilliant on screen, we get on really well, we had a really good time.’

But Jay is having the opposite of that, and will soon dabble with ketamine to try and take the edge off his grief.

Will Nadine lead him completely off the rails ahead of Jamie’s tantalisingly teased major story twist?
