Saturday night’s instalment of Strictly Come Dancing saw comedian and actress Ellie Taylor and Johannes Radebe take to the dancefloor for their Rumba performance. Despite fans being left impressed, the judges awarded the celebrity a relatively low score of 22. After receiving their feedback, Ellie was left tearful as she apologised to her Strictly pro.

Week seven of the BBC dance competition saw Ellie and Johannes do a dramatic Rumba routine to the song  Alone by Heart.

With them both topping the leaderboard last weekend with an impressive score of 35, alongside Tyler West and Dianne Buswell, the stakes were high for the duo.

However, judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke were left less than impressed with Craig giving her a three for her performance.

Once the dancing duo were speaking to Claudia Winkleman after being awarded their total score, Ellie became tearful.

The Ted Lasso actress confessed that for this dance, she found getting into the emotions difficult.

She commented: “I think every other dance we’ve had really has been quite playful and the Rumba is so different.

“It’s the most emotional and serious dance to do. I think I’ve really tried to lean into it but I have found it really hard to take myself seriously.”

Admitting that the routine was different to the dances they’d done in the past, Ellie started to get visibly upset.

Turning to her partner, she said: “I’m just so sorry that they didn’t like it.”

Disagreeing with her, Johannes quickly pulled Ellie in for a hug for reassurance that she wasn’t the blame.

Touching on their rehearsals this week, the pro told Claudia Winkleman that the actress struggled with the steps and timing for their Rumba.

He said: “She absolutely did not like the timing because she was like,’ it doesn’t make sense, why do we start on two?!’

“I was like, ‘Babe, the two and the three are for walking and the four and the one is to transfer the body.’

With the other dancers laughing in the studio Claudia looked confused at his explanation as she shook her head and asked “Pardon?!”.

Although Ellie and Johannes received a total of 22 for week seven, they’re not at the bottom of the leaderboard where Tony Adams and Katya Jones currently stand.

They were given a score of 21 for their Salsa after the football star made some mistakes throughout the routine.

At the top of the leaderboard is wildlife cameraman Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal who were given an impressive 38 for their Cha Cha Cha.

Their near-perfect score was made up of three 10s from Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke with Craig Revel Horwood giving them an eight.

Not far behind them are Kym Marsh and Graziano Di Prima and Helen Skelton and Gorka Marquez who both were given 37 on Saturday night.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight on BBC One at 7:15pm.
