Dying Faith (played by Sally Dexter) is gearing up for the end of her life following her terminal cancer diagnosis, and Wednesday’s tear-jerking episode saw Emmerdale residents throwing a surprise party for the soap stalwart as a goodbye. Faith and her son, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) never normally see eye to eye, but one poignant moment saw Cain trying to tell his mother what she meant to him as they danced together. The moment left fans in tears as several said the scene “broke my heart” as they watched the character struggle to tell Faith he loved her.
As Faith danced with Cain at her surprise party, she tearfully commented: “I do love you, son.”
She continued: “I love you so much, I just want you to know that.”
Emotional, Cain paused before replying: “Mum?” to which Faith laughed: “You hate me, I know.”
“No, shut up mum, what I’m trying to say… What I want to say,” but he was unable to finish his sentence.
“What?” Faith asked. “What do you want to say, son?”
Cain began: “I-” but the moment was interrupted by the speakers, which suddenly let out a loud noise.
The scene touched fans’ hearts and many admitted they were left in tears.
Twitter user @christine6257 commented: “Oh @emmerdale the Faith storyline tonight has broken my heart! You have this spot on! #emmerdale.”

@GinaLouLoves remarked: “I really hope faith hears cain say he loves her before it’s too late #emmerdale.”
“Cain has to say those three words to Faith before its too late, if he doesn’t he’ll go on a downward spiral of grief. #emmerdale,” warned @Alliecats17.

@bestchester276 added; “I hope Faith knows Cain wanted to say he loves her #Emmerdale.” (sic)
It came as the village rallied around to create a seaside-themed party for Faith.
Her family surprised her by driving her to the special “fairground”. When she saw the scene, Faith cried, commenting: “This is brilliant.”
Throughout the episode, she had meaningful chats with several of the villagers.
“Are you enjoying yourself?” Moira Barton (Natalie J Robb) asked her at one point.
“Oh yes, this is bliss – pure, unadulterated bliss,” she replied happily.
Faith’s last episode is set to take place imminently, with the seaside party the family’s final gift to the soap favourite.
It’s bound to be an emotional episode, and actress Sally recently explained how she would have filmed the final scene if it had been up to her.
“My idea was to have her save Cain and Chas from some sort of attack in the Woolie – say from a bullet or a knife aimed at her children from a crazed intruder,” she admitted.
“I found it really quite poignant to film,” the actress told The Mirror while talking about her final scene on the soap.
“I knew it meant Faith’s time in Emmerdale was up and so was mine. I have enjoyed being back.”
Emmerdale continues on Thursday at 7pm on ITV.
