Emmerdale fans begged "don't come back" as Lydia Dingle made a sudden exit from the village.

Lydia, played by Karen Blick, recently learned the truth about Craig Reed's (Ben Addis) murder. After he raped Lydia, Craig made a number of enemies in the village.

So when he was dying on the floor after being kicked in the face by Kim Tate's (Claire King) horse, it was hardly a surprise when she conspired with Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) to leave him for dead. As Sam Dingle (James Hooton) attacked Craig prior to his death, Lydia believed he was to blame and struggled to forgive him.

During Thursday's episode (December 7), Kim revealed that she was partly responsible for what happened to Craig. In Friday's (December 8) visit to the Dales, Sam reeled at Kim's confession.

Having believed he was responsible for his death, Sam hit out at Kim as he was almost sent to prison. But she insisted she wouldn't have let that happen.

At the end of the episode, Lydia opened up to Sam about her struggles. She explained she was going to stay with her mum for a while and therefore wouldn't be spending Christmas with their family.

Her exit didn't leave followers disappointed as they headed to social media to make the same demand. One wrote: "Just caught the second half of #emmerdale – first time seen in weeks – and I note Lydia's still weird! Is that her gone for good at last?"

A second added: "Chuffing 'eck! By the cringe, they're dragging this Lydia storyline out. Thank the Lord that we've got three weeks without her." Another asked: "Anyone else hoping Lydia doesn't come back?"

A fourth agreed: "So Lydia is abandoning her family for Christmas?? Ok Lydia. Sam just get rid of her, she’s pathetic. Ridiculous character. I really used to like her, but now she’s annoying. Hope she doesn’t return."

Someone else weighed in: "Stay with your Mam for as long as you want Lydia, 1 year, 2 years , 3 , 4 , longer the bloody better." Another exclaimed: "MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! BYE LYDIA AND DON'T COME BACK HUN X."
