Emmerdale’s Sam Dingle’s marriage in ‘danger’ as he’s scared to touch wife

Emmerdale: Lydia threatens to go to the police

Emmerdale’s Sam Dingle’s (played by James Hooton) marriage could be in danger as he’s left scared to touch his traumatised wife.

Last month, fans of the ITV soap watched in horror as Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick) was raped by Craig Reed (Ben Addis).

The duo, who were childhood friends after first meeting in a children’s home, started to grow close when he first arrived in the village.

However, he took advantage of their budding friendship and raped her whilst she was at work.

Since the harrowing incident, viewers have seen Lydia suffer from what happened as she bristles every time Sam touches her.

As she’s only confided in Kim Tate (Claire King), some residents have been left to believe Lydia is having an affair, especially as she fled the village.

Making out she was going to visit her mother, Sam went into a state of panic when he learned Lydia wasn’t where she said she was going to be.

Leaving her a voice message, Lydia decides it’s time to come clean to her family and friends about what happened.

Although the aftermath seems as though there could be trouble in their marriage as the duo find it hard to navigate Lydia’s trauma.

Official spoilers for the ITV soap reveal Sam tries to get close to his wife again as he suggests they spend the day together.

However, he’s gutted when she turns his offer down, leaving him unsure how to handle the situation.

As Lydia insists she wants to clean the house, Sam is left feeling lost and helpless, scared to touch his traumatised wife.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the soap star hinted that the aftermath of her sexual assault could have a huge impact on her marriage.

She said: “She’s terrified this could mean the end of her marriage to Sam which is her absolute world, and the end of the Dingle family, which means so much to Lydia.

“She grew up in care, in isolation, she’s estranged in many ways from her own family so the Dingles are her absolute world.”

Will Sam and Lydia be able to survive the horrific incident? Or are they heading for divorce?
