Dick Strawbridge is usually seen with his youngest children Arthur, nine, and Dorothy, eight, on Escape to the Chateau, but he has two grown-up children, James, 38, and Charlotte, 34, from a previous marriage. The Channel 4 star let slip how he “bickers” with James in some behind-the-scenes footage captured in the chateau’s gardens.
Dick and his wife Angel Adoree have been renovating their 45-bedroom French home for years, with much of it being documented on the Channel 4 programme Escape to the Chateau.
A video of Dick and James was posted on the Escape to the Chateau Instagram page which was captioned: “Father and son time at the Chateau. Be sure to watch the new series to see what these two have been up to.”
James told viewers: “It’s a beautiful morning. We are trying to be very well-behaved and do a little bit of filming together. It’s been quite a while.”
They were planning on picking some herbs together but his father cut in: “I’m not going to do that, I’m going to use my young son to do that.”
James interjected: “Not your young son, your old son.”
As tensions mounted, Dick scoffed and elbowed James, warning: “I’m going to push him off the stool!”
“We bicker,” admitted Dick, which promoted James to disagree: “No, we debate.”
His son joked Dick “doesn’t listen” to him when he is trying to make a point.
James is rarely seen by Escape to the Chateau viewers as he has his own television show called The Hungry Sailors.
Channel 4 viewers are more familiar with Angel, Dorothy and Arthur who have starred in all eight seasons of Escape to the Chateau with Dick.
While James and his dad admit they clash when visiting each other, they appear to be very close on social media.
Following James’ recent stay at Chateau De La Motte Husson, Dick shared an emotional video of their time together on Instagram.
Dick and Angel penned: “Get ready to have your heartstrings played with @jgstrawbridge beautiful video of our week together (click the Filmed by the Strawbridges’ link in our bio).
“We are missing him to bits but have so many brilliant memories – makes you remember what life is about! Love, Dick and Angel xxx.”
Dozens of their followers commented on the moving video, with @Enchanted_Light adding: “So lovely to see @jgstrawbridge with you all. Have followed the Strawbridge adventures since the ‘green living project’ days.”
Cathryn Lewis said: “That was lovely. I enjoy all the family moments.”
Daphne Rudman remarked: “Awesome family memories, beautiful, thank you for sharing.”
Kat penned: “This was the sweetest thing ever – the Strawbridges have my heart.”
