Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams trailer from the BBC
Former Top Gear host Steve Barry has slammed the BBC show for hiring people who aren’t motoring journalists to present the show.
It comes after cricketer Freddie Flintoff suffered serious injuries last year following a crash whilst filming for the latest series.
The 45-year-old was involved in a serious incident where he sustained serious facial injuries and a broken rib.
As production for Top Gear has been paused in light of the crash, its future is still undecided.
Speaking about the motoring show, ex-host Steve Barry told GB News that BBC bosses should hire people who know what they’re doing in that field.

He said: “The difference back when I did it was they used to appoint motoring journalists.
“I was completely aware of the dangers that could often occur, I was under no illusion.
“The problem for me with the modern Top Gear is you’re asking a cricketer to do things that really should be done by people who know what they’re doing.”
Steve also experienced a crash whilst filming where his car flipped upside down in a ditch.

He told GB News that as the car was completely destroyed, he had to wait six months until it was rebuilt for filming to continue.
Last December, Freddie’s car also flipped upside down dragging both him and a member of the production team along the track.
The dad-of-four was driving an open-topped three-wheel sports car and was going up to 130 mph before the crash.
It’s believed Freddie had to wait 45 minutes before being airlifted to hospital.
As an internal investigation into the show got underway, Freddie stepped down from his position and was kept out of the public eye.
That was until this month when he made his first public appearance in Cardiff for England’s one-day international game against New Zealand.
Although he may not be returning back to Top Gear, it’s been reported he’s making a TV comeback by filming the second series of his BBC show Field of Dreams.
It’s been reported filming for his show will start over the next few months.
