Strictly Come Dancing was the centre of a “race” row on Sunday night after Fleur East and Richie Anderson landed in the bottom two. Despite receiving an impressive 29 points from the judges, it wasn’t enough to put Fleur and her dance partner Vito Coppola straight through to next week’s show. However, luckily for the X Factor star, three out of four judges voted for Fleur to stay, sending Richie and Giovanni Pernice home.
However, following the show, some Strictly fans called out the voting system, with some claiming there could be a “racism” aspect to Richie and Fleur landing in the dance-off.
Addressing the backlash and landing in the bottom two, Fleur told Rylan Clark she found it really hard.
“We’ve got we’ve got to talk about this,” Rylan said on Tuesday’s It Takes Two. “There has been so much drama online.
“Have your say babe, that is what this show is all about.”
“It was rough,” Fleur replied before adding: “In that dance-off, it was awful.
“One because obviously, you realise, ‘Oh my gosh, I’ve got to dance again’, and with all those lifts, I was just relieved we got through it once.
“Secondly, I love Richie, I get on with Richie so well. He’s such a joy and I hated having to dance against him.
“But in a lot of ways, I’m actually grateful that we had that experience because it made me realise how much I want to be here.”
Looking forward to this weekend, Rylan explained Fleur and Vito would be performing the Argentine Tango.
“One word springs to mind,” the host said. “Saucy. It’s going to be a saucy number.”
“Yeah, we haven’t done anything like this,” Fleur admitted.
“We’ve come from like, wham bam, week one, really graceful and now we’re doing something different.”
When asked how Fleur was in rehearsals after landing in the bottom two, Vito said: “She is reacting good.
“I must say that of course after Sunday night she needs a bit of a recharge.
“She reacts quite good and she is a warrior.”
“I’m just really grateful to everybody who’s been sending us messages of support,” Fleur added.
“It’s been so lovely, honestly, and I’m really grateful to the judges for saving us.
“I think I’m just gonna use that to just keep us positive this week.”
Turning to Vito, the singer said: “He is just amazing. He is so talented.”
