Gary Numan has stopped keeping count of the amount of cosmetic procedures he’s had over the years, including facelifts.

The Are Friends Electric? singer is preparing to make a comeback more than four decades after he ‘retired’ from music amid the pressures of fame.

He is set to debut his documentary, Gary Numan Resurrection, following his return to the music venue – where he marked his departure with a string of farewell concerts in 1981 – earlier this year.

During his appearance on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday, presenter Richard Madeley couldn’t help but point out Numan’s youthful looks and easy-going nature.

The broadcaster told the singer, who was appearing remotely: ‘What I would say is a very healthy attitude to yourself, your profile and publicity because your philosophy is basically – with journalists, with this documentary, with us here this morning – [is] “ask me what you like”.

‘I can’t tell you how many people who are famous like you that we’ve had here have all these riders, don’t ask them about this, they won’t talk about that, they’ll walk off the set if you touch on this subject. It’s a pain in the neck to be honest with you, and you’re not like that.’

Richard added: ‘In the documentary you cheerfully admit you’ve had, what is it, five hair transplants and you’ve had a facelift and you’re happy to talk about it.’

Numan, 64, then laughed: ‘I’ve lost count of facelifts!’ while visibly trying to work it out in his head.

The pop star then confirmed: ‘I’ve had two I think so none of this is real. People say you’re ageing well!’

GMB presenter Charlotte Hawkins reassured her guest: ‘It looks good anyhow.’

Numan has been open about his cosmetic enhancements in the past and explained the pressures on keeping up appearances in the showbiz industry.

‘I wouldn’t say I’m vain — I’m just in a job where the way you look is important. Well, at least the facelift wasn’t vanity, but the hair was,’ Numan told the Daily Mail in 2012.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
