Netflix true crime documentary, Girl in the Picture has left viewers feeling 'horrified throughout' by the messed up child kidnapping case of Tonya Hughes, also known as Sharon Marshall.
The documentary follows an FBI cold case that starts with a 1990 hit-and-run-death of a 20-year-old Tonya Hughes, who was kidnapped as a young girl by Franklin Delano Floyd, raised as his daughter, and eventually became Floyd’s wife.
As mysterious and chilling as the documentary is, the story is based on the true events of Tonya's life and is available to read on the FBI website.

In a sick twist, we learn that the evil paedophile married her and they lived as man and wife – even raising a child together under new alias' Clarence and Tonya Hughes.
Viewers took to Twitter to vent their disgust as the mystery unfolded.
One person tweeted: "Girl in the picture on Netflix is a whole other level of how messed up men can be."
True crime veterans were also left shocked by the story: “Girl in the picture” on Netflix was the most insane crimes I've ever heard of."
When Tonya was killed in a hit-and-run, leaving behind her infant son, Michael, Floyd struck authorities were concerned by Floyd, who was very strange man, and foul play was suspected in Tonya’s death and Michael was sent to foster care.
Floyd spent four years trying to get him back – and when that failed, he kidnapped the six-year-old at gunpoint. A manhunt ensued and he was eventually caught but Michael was nowhere to be found.
Floyd refused to reveal his location and was sentenced to 52 years in prison for the kidnap.
In 1995, a new development found that Floyd had killed Cheryl Ann Commesso, a friend of Sharon's, which he was sentenced for, but it wasn't until 2015 that he confessed to killing Micheal and revealed Sharon’s true identity – Suzanne Sevakis.
True crime lovers that managed to make it through the two hour long Netflix documentary share their shock at the details of the case from start to finish.
"The most heartbreaking, gut wrenching and horrifying true crime documentaries I’ve watched on Netflix," one tweeted.
Another tweeted: "I’ve watched many messed up crime documentaries yet “Girl in the picture” on Netflix managed to keep me shocked and horrified throughout."
A third agreed: "This netflix doc “girl in the picture” might be the most f***ed up thing I have ever watched."
A fourth said: "Girl in the Picture on @netflix is one f***ed up story, it just gets weirder and weirder."
A fifth chimed in: "I have watched a lot of true crime docs in my day (yes, I'm a cliche) and Girl in the Picture on Netflix is by far the most disturbing, heartbreaking yet well-produced one I have ever seen. This story is absolutely nuts. Highly recommend, if you're into true crime."
Now aged 79, Floyd is on death row but has yet to disclose the suspicious death of Sharon Marshall, which remains unsolved. He is, however, considered a person of interest in Sharon’s death.
